Unsung Hero Transforms Rural Education

🌱 The Inspiration

Rajiv, a software engineer from Bangalore, returned to his hometown of Gadag, Karnataka, in 2010 to care for his ailing mother. Surprised by the lack of quality education in rural parts of India, he decided to make a difference.

🚀 The Initiative

Rajiv started ‘Prerana’, an initiative to provide quality education to children of farmers and laborers in small villages around Gadag. The initiative began with only 10 children in a makeshift classroom, but as of 2021, it educates over 1,000 children across multiple villages.

💡 Impact

Prerana has transformed the lives of countless rural children, many of whom have gone on to pursue higher education, a feat previously unthinkable in their communities.

  • 97% of students have passed their 10th grade board exams since 2015.
  • Over 200 students have successfully entered college.
  • Prerana has motivated more parents to prioritize their children’s education.

📍 The Bigger Picture

Rajiv’s story is a testament to the power of individual actions in transforming communities. His initial step has sparked a change in rural education in India, proving that it’s not about where you come from, but where you want to go.
