In 1979, a young Jadav Payeng, profoundly upset by the devastation caused by floods on his island Majuli, Assam, decided to make a change. Armed with 20 bamboo plants, he set out to reclaim the lost land by planting trees.
💡 The Forest of Life
Fast-forward to today, the once barren land is now a lush forest spread over 1,360 acres, home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including Royal Bengal tigers, Indian rhinoceros, and over 100 deer and rabbits. This feat has earned him the title of ‘Forest Man of India’.
