🌱 What Happened
In the lush greenery of Assam, a real-life ‘Jungle Book’ story unfolds. On 12th June 2020, a group of forest rangers led by Hemanta Prakash Sharma encountered a baby rhinoceros stranded near the flood-ravaged banks of the Brahmaputra river. Unable to locate the calf’s mother, they embarked on an ambitious mission to rescue the helpless rhino.
💡 Impact
With immense dedication, they managed to transport the calf to the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC) in Kaziranga. Here, the calf, named ‘Jadav,’ after the famous environmental activist Jadav Payeng, was nursed back to health. Jadav’s recovery and well-being demonstrate the unyielding spirit of the rescuers and their commitment towards animal welfare.
- Jadav is now in a healthy condition and spends his day gallivanting in the open fields of the CWRC.
- The rescue operation highlighted the possible risks that the region’s wildlife faces due to climate change and flooding.
📍 The Bigger Picture
The rescue of Jadav is a shining example of humanity’s undying spirit to protect and preserve nature. It serves as a call to arms for us all to contribute positively towards the welfare of animals and our environment.
