🌱 What Happened
Poonam Bir Kasturi, a Bangalore-based industrial designer, was troubled by the massive amount of kitchen waste generated in urban households. So, she decided to make a change. In 2006, she founded Daily Dump, India’s first home composter for converting kitchen waste into compost.
💡 Impact
Daily Dump has since grown exponentially, tackling the waste problem head-on. The organization has:
- Helped over 50,000 families in 18 Indian cities to manage their waste at home
- Recycled over 6500 tons of organic waste
- Reduced the release of 13000 tons of CO2
📍 The Bigger Picture
Poonam’s efforts go beyond composting. She is educating people about the importance of waste segregation and composting, creating a cultural shift in how society views waste. Her initiative has sparked similar efforts across the globe.
Poonam’s story reminds us that small steps can lead to big changes. She shows us that it’s possible to make a difference in our world, and inspires us to do the same. To learn more about Poonam and her work, visit the Daily Dump website.
