🌱 What Happened
The innovative SunPedal Ride initiative has been making waves in India. Started by Sushil Reddy, an IIT Bombay alumni, this initiative aims to promote the use of sustainable energy, particularly solar energy, through long distance rides on solar electric bicycles.
💡 The Innovation
Reddy designed a solar-powered electric bicycle that can run up to 50 km on a single charge. The bike’s battery gets charged through a solar panel installed on top of the bike. The first SunPedal Ride took place in 2016, when Reddy completed an impressive 7,424 km journey across nine Indian states in 79 days.
📍 The Bigger Picture
Besides promoting solar energy, SunPedal Ride also aims to educate people about sustainable living. During his rides, Reddy organizes workshops and seminars in schools, colleges, and villages. He has reached out to more than 10,000 people directly and millions indirectly, spreading a message of sustainability and innovation.
